Pittsburgh man names 136 companies in asbestos suit

CHARLESTON - A Pittsburgh man has filed an asbestos suit against 136 companies, claiming the companies contributed to his lung diseases.

David A. Smith and his wife, Judy, filed the suit Aug. 26 in Kanawha Circuit Court. Pittsburgh attorney David Chervenick filed the suit.

According to the suit, Smith, 70, worked at various job sites in West Virginia as an asbestos insulation work for Asbestos Workers Local 2. He now has asbestosis and mesothelioma, lung diseases contracted from asbestos exposure.

Smith claims he was exposed to asbestos at job sites and locales around West Virginia.

In the 14-count suit, David and Judy Smith seek compensatory and punitive damages, for themselves and other similarly situated.

The case will be assigned to a visiting judge.
