CHARLESTON — Healy E. Baumgardner — a former White House Press Official and Energy Press Secretary who also served as a Deputy Communications Director for Mayor Rudy Giuliani — and Suzette Raines — a leading energy and media strategist who has worked with Fortune 500 companies and public officials — launched Capital Communications Group (CCG), an issue and expert-based public relations and government affairs firm –with locations in Washington, D.C., and Charleston, W.Va.
“CCG’s breadth of experience spans many years, most issues of public debate and every continent,” said Baumgardner, President of Strategic Communications. “That’s what makes us unique =– our team –= which is our best asset.
“We’ve brought industry experts to the table for our clients who know the issues backward and forward — from designing and advocating policies on behalf of the Executive Branch and the White House, acting as chief spokespeople and media liaisons on the world stage and in the Court of Public Opinion, and representing and advising national and multi-national companies in the judicial system and Court Room.”
CCG’s expert public relations and government affairs practice groups include Litigation Communications, Energy and Environment Communications, Crisis Communications, Issue Advocacy and Public Affairs, Grassroots Advocacy, Gaming, Healthcare and Travel and Tourism.
“Our Energy and Environment Practice Group speaks for itself, given the heightened awareness of the issue,” Baumgardner said. “Our Litigation Communications Practice Group is the first of its kind -– an aggressive and unprecedented model we designed with time, experience and analysis of many case studies -– bringing expert jurisdictional, venue and media knowledge to the table.
“Our venue-specific teams work with the client and legal team to define and design message and strategy, from a 24/7 War Room and press office operation to jury polling and research, on behalf of high-profile and/or high-dollar cases. The Court of Public Opinion is a key deciding factor in the outcome -– and CCG’s Litigation Communications Group manages the strategy and message on all fronts -– on and off the record.
“For example, with West Virginia being the number one state for torts, the environment is highly litigious, and that’s where this practice fills a void -– by providing a communications team for these companies who knows the ground game and will manage the front lines -– the key players, the target audience and the media.”
In addition to Raines who serves as President of Public Affairs for CCG, other senior team members include Senior Strategy Advisor Robert “Booter” Ryan, Esq.; Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Alyson Austin; Managing Director for Digital Media Eric Ochmanek; Managing Director for Digital Media Jerry Kowalewski; and, Senior Account Executive Mika Linsky-Ward.
