CHARLESTON – A Hurricane woman is suing a dentist she claims was negligent in properly installing a crown.
On Aug. 18, 2009, Dr. Timothy M. Spears failed to properly install a crown in Renee C. Young Gorrell, according to a complaint filed Oct. 14 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Young Gorrell claims Spears also failed to provide adequate post-operative care, including prevention care; failed to provide appropriate remedial care; and failed to otherwise exercise due care with respect to her care while she was a patient.
As a result of the defendant’s negligence, Young Gorrell suffered infections and pain and suffering, according to the suit.
Young Gorrell claims Spears also caused her to suffer dental and medical expenses.
Spears’ actions were willful, wanton, reckless, and in deviation from the normal standard of care, according to the suit.
Young Gorrell is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by Joseph K. Reeder.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib Jr.
