CHARLESTON — Steven L. Snyder, former in-house counsel at GE Aviation in Cincinnati, has joined Dinsmore.
Snyder will be based in Dinsmore’s Charleston office, where he will continue to practice labor and employment and privacy law, as well as general civil litigation.
Snyder said he enjoyed his work at GE Aviation but came to West Virginia to be with his wife, who recently assumed a pulpit in Huntington.
“Dinsmore is one of GE’s preferred providers and I became familiar with the firm during my tenure at GE,” he said. “I am happy to have the opportunity to practice with such an outstanding regional firm and to join my wife in West Virginia.”
During Snyder’s six years with GE Aviation, the world’s largest jet engine manufacturer, he worked in both the general litigation and the labor and employment departments. During this time, Snyder represented the company in disputes involving the False Claims Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, product liability claims and breach of contract allegations.
As a member of the Labor & Employment Group, Snyder defended the company in employment discrimination lawsuits and labor grievance arbitrations and represented the company before government agencies such as the EEOC. He also counseled the company on compliance matters, strike preparedness training, and hiring and termination issues.
In addition, Snyder served as GE Aviation’s lead privacy attorney, advising the company on compliance with domestic and foreign privacy laws and data breach notice requirements.
Snyder graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign-Urbana, where he was an articles editor for the law review. After law school, Snyder clerked for one year for Judge Harlington Wood Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Following his clerkship, Snyder worked at Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs in Louisville, Ky. During his 13-year tenure as a litigator with Wyatt, Snyder represented a wide variety of business and government clients.
In addition to his law degree, Snyder has an M.S. in Journalism from the University of Illinois, an M.B.A. from Xavier University and a B.A. in Communications from Antioch College. Snyder is a member of the Order of the Coif legal honorary society and the Beta Gamma Sigma business school honorary society. He is licensed to practice law in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia state courts, as well as several federal courts.
