Sept. 19
Charles D. Renton vs. West Virginia University College of Law and Joyce McConnell, Dean of the College of Law
PA-Christopher M. Wilson; J-NA
* In 2003, Renton completed his requirements for the Degree of Jurisprudence with a grade point average of 2.03. When he registered for the West Virginia Bar Exam, he was required to show proof that he had graduated from an accredited law school. The College of Law required students to have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Renton alleges his transcripts had been altered to show a grade point average of 1.95. He was notified by the Registrar of a deficiency in his transcripts, and a corrected version showing a grade point average of 2.03 were then sent to Renton. He is seeking punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees and costs.
