CHARLESTON — Steptoe & Johnson is pleased to announce that Elizabeth S. Power has become Of Counsel to the firm. Power joined the firm’s office in Charleston and will focus her practice in the area of energy law.
Power comes to Steptoe & Johnson after serving nearly five years as the Assistant General Counsel for Patriot Coal Corporation. While at Patriot Coal, she was responsible for the company’s legal department in West Virginia. This included management of all their civil litigation, contracts, review of coal leases and preparation of contract mining agreements. Prior to her time at Patriot Coal, Power was the Senior Counsel for Peabody Holding Company, where she focused her work on contracts, coal leases, contract mining agreements and amendments, as well as managing civil litigation.

Power earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma and her J.D. from the West Virginia University College of Law. She is a recipient of the Thomas N. Chambers Award in Taxation from the West Virginia University College of Law.
