Man blames doctors after losing leg

Stfrancis e1377116820878

CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County man has filed a lawsuit against several doctors after losing his left leg.

Jacquard Scott Knight, along with his wife Lisa Knight, filed the suit Nov. 12 against Drs. Prasad Polisetty, Elie George Gharib, Patrick Edwin Hill, Hatem Mahmoud Hossino and Barbara Michael, in addition to nursing assistants, Teresa Varney and Lailah Rice. The suit, which was filed in Kanawha Circuit Court, alleges medical malpractice.

On Sept. 24, 2012, Scott Knight went to the emergency room at St. Francis Hospital with redness, pain and swelling in his left foot. He couldn't stand on the leg and said that he had not injured the leg. The emergency room's records show that the plaintiff was suffering from ecchymosis, crychema, soft tissue tenderness and diminished palpable dorsalis pedis pulses. He also had an abnormal popliteal pulse and vasculitis.

After being admitted to the hospital for a few days, the plaintiff requested to be moved to Charleston Area Medical Center. Once there, he had to have his left leg amputated below the knee, which the plaintiffs allege was due to negligence caused by a delay in treatment by the defendants.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages for the medical bills and continued medical costs, as well as compensation for injuries and sustained financial hardship.

The plaintiffs are represented by Matthew Lindsay and Richard Lindsay of Tabor Lindsay & Associates of Charleston. Judge Jennifer Bailey presides over the case.
