WINFIELD - A KFC employee is suing after he was allegedly burned by hot oil in a deep fryer.

Donald L. Young filed a lawsuit Dec. 13 in the Putnam County Circuit Court against B.W. Painter Inc., doing business as Kentucky Fried Chicken, citing deliberate intent, spoliation of evidence and punitive damages.

Young was employed as a cook at KFC in Hurricane. According to the complaint, on Oct. 8, 2012, he was directed to remove, clean and paint the kitchen hood vents and then re-install the vents.

He says that in order to install the vents, he had to position a ladder over the deep fryers. While installing the vents, his foot and ankle went into the fryer filled with hot oil, he says. The complaint states Young suffered first-, second- and third-degree burns on his foot and ankle.

Young is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages. He is being represented in the case by attorney Mark H. Mitchell.
