Mom blames Huntington hospital for injuring newborn

HUNTINGTON -- A Michigan mother is suing over claims the negligence of St. Mary's Medical Center caused irreparable damages to her newborn baby.

Tanise Jackson, individually and as the mother of Marvelle Mayo, filed a lawsuit April 21 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia against St. Mary's Medical Center Inc., citing medical malpractice.

Jackson claims she went to the defendant under the care of Dr. Aaron Scaife on Dec. 9, 2012, for the labor and delivery of Marvelle Mayo. The suit alleges the Pitocin given to Jackson to induce the delivery caused well known signs and symptoms of distress in the baby and symptoms of a uterine rupture in Jackson.

According to the brief, Scaife decided to deliver Marvelle by caesarian section too late, resulting in Marvelle suffering life altering damages, including cerebral palsy and blindness.

Jackson is seeking damages in an amount to be proven at trial, interest, attorney's fees, expenses and court costs.

She is being represented in the case by Elkins attorney David A. Sims of Law Offices of David A. Sims PLLC.
