CHARLESTON -- A Kentucky man is suing over claims he was injured on a work site at a federal building in West Virginia.
William Richard Potter filed a lawsuit May 6 in Kanawha Circuit Court against B&F Contracting Inc., Northern Management Services Inc. and B. Armstrong Electrical Services Inc.
According to the complaint, Potter was employed as a laborer by B&F Contracting who was subcontracted by B. Armstrong Electrical to work on a project at the Parkersburg Federal Building. Northern Management Services was under contract to inspect federal buildings in West Virginia.
Potter says he was working to pump concrete through an air intake shaft at the building May 14, 2013, when the protective grating over the shaft collapsed, causing Potter and a coworker to fall 14 feet and the 1,570-pound grate to fall on top of them.
The defendants are accused of failing to provide a safe place for Potter to work.
Potter is seeking compensatory damages and costs.
