BECKLEY – A former Raleigh County woman is suing over claims she sustained heart damage as a result of emergency room staff failing to diagnose her problem in a timely manner.
Sue P. Lewis filed a lawsuit July 28 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Raleigh General Hospital LLC, Southeastern Emergency Physicians Inc., doing business as Team Health Inc. and Rodney William Fisher D.O., citing medical malpractice.
According to the complaint, Lewis presented to the Raleigh General Hospital emergency room with chest pain on April 27, 2012, and was sent home the following day. Lewis says she went back on April 30, 2012, again with chest pain and this time with sweating and vomiting, and Fisher ordered an ECG, but failed to recognize the signs of myocardial infarction. The complaint states her heart problem went undiagnosed until May 15, 2012, by which time she had suffered severe damage to her heart.
The defendants are accused of negligence in failing to adhere to applicable standards of care.
Lewis is being represented in the case by attorney Kelly R. Reed in Morgantown. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Robert A. Burnside.
