Mingo County magistrate retiring

Mingocourt

WILLIAMSON – Mingo County Magistrate Pam Newsome is retiring, effective June 30.

Mingo Circuit Judge Miki Thompson has appointed West Virginia State Police Sergeant Barry Marcum to the position. He will retire from the State Police to take the job, the judge said.

“I feel that Mingo County is very fortunate to get someone of this caliber and of his experience to be willing to take the position,” Thompson said.

Newsome “has been an exemplary magistrate, one that everybody is proud of and one that Mingo County will certainly miss,” Thompson said.

Newsome, 55, has worked for the West Virginia court system for 30 years. She was a magistrate assistant in Mingo County until she was elected magistrate for the first time in 1997.
