WHEELING - A member of Alcoholics Anonymous is suing another member after attempting to break up a fight and eventually getting attacked himself.

Michael J. Knorr filed the suit last month in Ohio County.

In the suit, filed by attorney Robert J. Gaudio, Knorr says that on Jan. 19, 2004, he was attending a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on National Road in Wheeling with the defendant, John Ward.

Shortly after the meeting was adjourned, Knorr says he witnessed Ward trying to violently injure another female member. Knorr claims that when he tried to restrain Ward, he himself was "attacked, abused, kicked, body-slammed and otherwise injured" by Ward.

As a result of the incident, Knorr says he has suffered permanent physical injuries as well as mental and emotional anguish.

He seeks a trial by jury.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Martin J. Gaughan.
