Man blames owners of Laidley Tower for fall

Laidley Tower

CHARLESTON – A Raleigh County man is suing the owners of Laidley Tower, claiming their negligence resulted in him falling at the Charleston high-rise.

Edward Ralph Hartsog filed the lawsuit Jan. 20 in Kanawha Circuit Court. He lists Laidley Tower LLC and Tomorrow 32 Laidley Tower LP as defendants and says that one or both of them own the 18-story glass building located at 500 Lee Street East.

On Jan. 27, 2004, Hartsog says he was exiting Laidley Tower when he fell down some unmarked steps.

As a result of the defendants' negligence, Hartsog says he suffered injuries to his head, neck, elbow and knee, as well as facial lacerations. Also, he says his eyeglasses were broken.

Hartsog, represented by attorney Rodney T. Berry, says he has incurred medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, future loss of income and loss of ability to enjoy life. He says some or all of those likely will continue into the future.

He seeks compensatory damages, interest, court costs and other relief.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Irene Berger.
