Woman sues hospital over husband's post-operation death

WHEELING - An Ohio resident has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit on behalf of her late husband against the hospital where he died while in post-operative care.

Linda Orr filed a suit April 25 in Ohio Circuit Court, against Wheeling Hospital Inc. and several physicians and members of the medical staff who were supposed to care for her husband, Harry Orr.

The doctors named in the suit are Chaganlal Patel, Matthew Platt Fox and Arnelle V. Eslava-Fernandez.

Linda Orr is a resident of Belmont County, Ohio. Her husband underwent a gastric bypass surgery in St. Clairsville, Ohio, on April 15, 2005. He went to Wheeling Hospital on April 24, experiencing some difficulties related to his surgery, the suit says.

According to the suit, the doctors did not properly examine Orr and failed to timely assess his problem, which turned out to be a perforated viscus. Orr ultimately died April 29, 2005, as a result of the breaches of appropriate care, the suit says.

Therefore, Linda Orr, through attorney D. Scott Bowling, seeks judgment, both jointly and severely, against the defendants.

The case has been assigned to Judge Ronald Wilson.
