PERSONNEL FILE: Hicks named to American College of Trial Lawyers

CHARLESTON -- The law firm of Spilman, Thomas & Battle has announced that Elliot G. Hicks has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in America.

Hicks is a Charleston native and alumnus of the West Virginia University College of Law. He is counsel in the firm of Spilman Thomas & Battle and has been practicing for nearly 30 years.

Hicks is a community leader, serving on numerous boards and commissions. He is a past president of the West Virginia State Bar. He received his B.A. in Political Science in 1978 from West Virginia University and his J.D. in 1981.

Founded in 1950, the American College of Trial Lawyers is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only and only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality.

Lawyers must have a minimum of 15 years trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship. Membership in the College cannot exceed 1 percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province.

Founded in 1864, Spilman Thomas & Battle is a full-service law firm with over 110 attorneys. The firm has offices in Charleston, Morgantown and Wheeling in West Virginia; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Roanoke, Va.
