Trip to salon leads to lawsuit over hair dye

CHARLES TOWN - A Jefferson County woman has filed a suit against her hair stylist, claiming she received chemical burns to her face while having her hair dyed.

Jane Brenner filed a suit Nov. 19 in Jefferson Circuit Court against Linda Grant and Hair Graphics.

According to the suit, Brenner went to Hair Graphics to have her hair dyed Nov. 19, 2005. During the dying process, some of the hair dye splashed on Brenner's face. Brenner returned to the salon three days later, to have the hair dye removed from her face and was given a salon grade hair dye remover.

Brenner claims she was told to use the dye remover and towel to remove the dye, but it instead damaged her skin.

"The use of said salon grade hair dye remover immediately caused (Brenner's) skin to slough off," the suit says.

Brenner claims Grant told her the reaction on her face was towel burn and applied aloe to the sore. She also advised over-the-counter first aid cream.

However, Brenner sought medical attention and was diagnosed with a chemical burn caused by a caustic product.

Brenner seeks damages for the mental anguish and emotional distress, depression and other mental and emotional effect and worry in connection with her injury.

Attorney Joanna Robinson is representing Brenner.
