THEIR VIEW: The Forrest Gump of West Virginia politics

By VIC SPROUSE

CHARLESTON -- And, I used to make fun of Nancy Guthrie's ads?

Holy smokes.

I have to apologize to Nancy. Her inane commercials were just blown out of the water.

I'm still shaking my head at Darrell McGraw's first ad of the season. It was a doozy.

It is only playing on Talkline for the next week. But, you have to listen. You have to tune in and simply wait for this commercial.

Darrell actually compares himself to….

Rosa Parks.

Rosa Parks?

Not only that, Darrell compares himself to….

Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr.?

Yes, the greats of the 20th Century.

Churchill.

Roosevelt.

Parks.

Reagan.

Kennedy.

King.

McGraw.

Holy smokes.

The sad part of the commercial is that Darrell ACTUALLY thinks he does belong in the same breath as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King.

Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus.

Darrell McGraw refuses to purchase any of his own campaign material instead opting for taxpayer paid funding.

Martin Luther King fought for civil rights for African-Americans.

Darrell McGraw fights to insure his campaign contributors get filthy rich with no-bid contingency fee contracts.

Who can't see the similarities?

Darrell and Rosa and Martin, it's impossible to not think of them in the same sentence.

How would you like to be the Democrats who heard that commercial today?

You know they had to cringe. I mean, it's definitely a first. I certainly can't remember anyone ever comparing themselves to Rosa Parks in a West Virginia campaign.

I certainly don't remember anyone ever comparing themselves to Martin Luther King.

But, Darrell did it.

You have to admit, the dude doesn't buy his own campaign material, refuses to debate, refuses to campaign, and compares himself to Rosa Parks. The dude does have some cajones.

He literally has NEVER debated. He refused to debate Bob Gould in 1992. He refused to debate Charlotte Lane in 1996. He even refused to debate Hiram Lewis in 2004.

18 years. Zero debates.

I'm sorry, but I simply don't believe he has the capability.

I'm sorry it is time for Darrell to go.

The next commercial? Its going to be a Forrest Gump-type commercial

Kennedy giving his "I'm a Berliner" speech? Yep, there is Darrell in the background.

Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech? Yep, Darrell in the background again.

Reagan at the "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" speech? Yep, you can see Darrell there.

Darrell is one of a kind, just not the kind we should elect again as Attorney General.

Run, Darrell, Run.
