Thomas Memorial Hospital is located in South Charleston.
CHARLESTON - A local hospital is being sued after a patient fell at the hospital and broke her leg.
Sharlene Allen filed the suit Feb. 7 in Kanawha Circuit Court as power of attorney for Irene Morris. The suit is against Thomas Memorial Hospital.
According to the suit, Morris entered the South Charleston hospital Aug. 14, 2007, with complaints of weakness. She allegedly fell Aug. 18, 2007, and suffered a broken leg.
"Defendant failed to adequately assess Ms. Morris for her risk for falls and timely and appropriately implement a care plan or interventions, such as a working bed alarm or increased supervision, so as to prevent Ms. Morris from falling," the suit says.
The suit says the hospital caused Morris' injuries and pain and suffering.
Allen claims Morris suffered bodily injuries, including the aggravation of existing diseases and physical defects and incurred medical expenses. She seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
Attorney Harry F. Bell is representing Allen and Morris. The case has been assigned to Judge James Stucky.
