MORGANTOWN -- Shuman, McCuskey & Slicer recently expanded its Morgantown office with the addition of attorney J. Robert Russell.

The Shuman, McCuskey & Slicer Morgantown office offers comprehensive legal representation to clients throughout northern West Virginia.

With the addition of Russell to the Shuman, McCuskey & Slicer team of lawyers, the Morgantown office also recently relocated to 1445 Stewartstown Road to accommodate the growth.

The Morgantown office opened on Jan. 4, 2006, with one lawyer, Timothy R. Linkous, responsible for the daily operations. Now, just two years later, the number of lawyers has grown to six total lawyers -- Linkous, Debra Bowers, Tamara J. DeFazio, Margaret Miner, Russell and Krista Sheets.

"The addition of the Morgantown office enabled our firm to provide quality litigation representation and other transactional legal services to our clients state wide," Linkous said. "We are also able to offer legal services involving every type of civil litigation issue, estate planning, estate administration, trusts, contract drafting, divorces, adoptions, tax law, and many others.

"This firm affords truly comprehensive civil litigation support, and our rapid growth is a testament to our clients' faithfulness in the firm and use of our services."

Russell joined the SMS Morgantown office on April 1. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Political Science and Journalism from James Madison University in 1988. Thereafter, he graduated Order of the Coif (top 10 percent) from the West Virginia College of Law in 1998. He was a member of the West Virginia Law Review and served as its Executive Editor for Publishing during his third year of law school.

In addition to providing quality legal representation to litigants throughout his almost 10 year career, he has also lectured to a variety of audiences on topics such as discrimination, sexual harassment, workers' compensation, public records and open meetings, municipal litigation, the Governmental Tort Claim and Insurance Reform Act, medical professional liability, and warrantless search and seizures in public schools.

Russell has tried numerous cases, including both jury and bench trials. He brings experience and a knowledge base applicable to a wide variety of issues to SMS. He represents a diverse group of clients including municipalities, governmental agencies, health care providers, mental health facilities, and general litigants. His practice involves insurance defense litigation, professional malpractice, and other civil litigation.
