Ky. woman sues St. Mary Medical Center, others for medical malpractice

HUNTINGTON -- An Ashland, Ky., woman is suing St. Mary's Medical Center and Huntington Emergency Physicians Group for negligence and medical malpractice after she claims they breached the acceptable standards of care.

Drs. John P. Short, Rodger Blake, Wen Long, Farid Mozaffari and Michael Stewart were also named as defendants in the case.

On Feb. 24, 2006, Edna Jenkins was involved in a motor vehicle accident and was transported from the scene to St. Mary's Medical Center by ambulance, according to a complaint filed March 18 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Jenkins claims during her medical treatment by the defendants, they failed to diagnose and treat a foreign object that was lodged in or about her eye.

As a result of the defendants' negligence, Jenkins suffered damages, according to the suit.

Jenkins is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Anthony J. Majestro and J.C. Powell.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge F. Jane Hustead.
