Couple sues CAMC for breast cancer

CHARLESTON -- A woman and her husband are suing Charleston Area Medical Center for negligence and medical malpractice after her cancer was not completely treated by agents of the facility.

On May 25, 2007, Lisa Morris was diagnosed with cancer in her left breast by breast biopsy, according to a complaint filed June 24 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Morris claims CAMC failed to provide her proper and timely follow up care and treatment following her lumpectomy on June 14, 2007, in which cancer was left behind inside her.

The defendants did not provide Morris with follow up care and treatment until approximately four months later and did not provide radiation or chemotherapy treatments, according to the suit.

Morris claims the defendant acted negligently, carelessly, willfully and wantonly or with reckless disregard of her risk or harm.

Morris and her husband, Eddie Morris, are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. They are being represented by Richard D. Lindsay.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge James C. Stucky.
