Cabell prosecuting attorney plans to file for judge

HUNTINGTON -- Cabell Circuit Judge Dan O'Hanlon retires at the end of the month, and county prosecuting attorney Chris Chiles could be the one to replace him.

Chiles, who has worked in the prosecutor's office for nearly 30 years, said he plans to file an application to fill the vacant seat. If appointed, the Cabell County Commission would be required to fill his spot as prosecutor.

Chiles said he views the judgeship as an opportunity to continue assisting the community, only in a different format.

"I'd be honored and I'd serve to the best of my ability," Chiles said.

O'Hanlon is set to retire Oct. 31. Gov. Joe Manchin will appoint O'Hanlon's replacement, and a state committee will start accepting applications Nov. 16.
