Ohio woman sues Huntington urologist for denying records request

HUNTINGTON -- A Lawrence County, Ohio, woman is suing a Huntington urologist for denying to provide her with her medical records.

On Dec. 8, 2009, Sherri Keeton underwent a surgical procedure performed by Dr. Michael R. Spindel, according to a complaint filed Dec. 1 in Cabell Circuit Court.

Ketton claims she requested a copy of her medical records on May 17, but was refused by Spindel's staff.

In November, Keeton went to Spindel's office and again requested a copy of her medical records and was refused, according to the suit.

Keeton claims the defendant is in violation of West Virginia Code, which requires that medical records will be provided to a patient upon request.

Keeton is seeking for the defendant to provide her with a complete copy of her medical records and $1,500 for her attorney fees. She is being represented by Michael A. Davenport.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
