HUNTINGTON -- A Huntington man is suing United Services Automobile Association and an individual he claims shot him.
On May 6, 2010, William C. Layne was a guest at a social gathering at the home of Richard E. Reese, according to a complaint filed Aug. 31 in Cabell Circuit Court.
Layne claims while Reese was attempting to clear the chamber of a pistol, he negligently discharged the pistol toward the ground and the discharged bullet struck Layne's left foot.
USAA was Reese's insurance company, according to the suit.
Layne claims he was severely and permanently injured when the bullet struck his foot.
Layne is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by Marvin W. Masters and Charles M. Love IV.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
