Millwood couple names 80 defendants in asbestos suit

CHARLESTON -- A Millwood couple is suing 80 companies they claim are responsible for a lung cancer diagnosis.

On Jan. 15, 2010, George L. Rawson Sr. was diagnosed with lung cancer, according to a complaint filed Jan. 12 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Rawson claims he was exposed to asbestos during his career as a laborer from 1964 until 1997.

The defendants are being sued based on theories of negligence, contaminated buildings, breach of expressed/implied warranty, strict liability, intentional tort, conspiracy, misrepresentations and post-sale duty to warn, according to the suit.

Rawson and his wife, Joan C. Rawson, are seeking a jury trial to resolve all issues involved. They are being represented by Victoria L. Antion, Scott A. McGee and Bronwyn I. Rinehart.

The case has been assigned to a visiting judge.
