HUNTINGTON -- For his outstanding performance in a number of activities, Randy Saunders, an associate in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough's West Virginia office, has earned the firm's 2011 Renaissance Associate Award.

Given annually, the award recognizes an associate who demonstrates achievement in client service, training, pro bono, marketing, recruiting, and mentoring.

"It's worth noting that this year's associates' performances were outstanding, more so than any other year. We had a number of candidates who were really extraordinary," said Greenville partner John Jennings, who chairs the Associates Committee. "Randy's performance was exceptional, and the firm appreciates his efforts and the results he achieved for clients."

Saunders joined the firm's litigation group in January 2010 and handles complex commercial litigation, product liability litigation, medical liability and healthcare litigation, and class actions and mass torts. He primarily represents clients in state and federal courts in West Virginia and Kentucky. He has also advocated for clients at the appellate level, having practiced before the Maryland Court of Appeals, Maryland Court of Special Appeals, Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, and the Kentucky Court of Appeals. In addition to his representation of clients involved in civil litigation, he has also represented clients before the West Virginia Board of Medicine.

Saunders said he was humbled and honored by the award.

"What makes Nelson Mullins special is the character of the attorneys," he said. "I've not only learned a lot from and admired the attorneys I've worked with, but have also become really good friends with them. To understand the character and expertise they have, that's what makes winning this award so special."

Established in 1897, Nelson Mullins has more than 430 attorneys and government relations professionals with offices in Atlanta, Boston, Nashville, Tallahassee, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., and throughout the Carolinas.
