Logan Co. couple sues Marriott for injuries at hotel

CHARLESTON -- A Logan County woman and her husband are suing Marriott International Inc. for injuries sustained at its hotel in Morgantown.

VIM Inc. was also named as a defendant in the suit.

On Dec. 15, 2011, Delores Balentine was a guest in a room of the Marriott's Residence Inn by Marriott when she fell and suffered a fracture of the right humerus, a sprained right rotator cuff, a torn right thumb nail and a contusion on her right hip, according to a complaint filed July 6 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Balentine claims the defendants' negligence caused her injuries.

The defendants' actions and negligence also caused Balentine to suffer from a loss of range of motion in her right shoulder and chronic pain in her right shoulder and arm, according to the suit.

Balentine and her husband, Phillip D. Balentine, are seeking compensatory damages. They are being represented by Timothy R. Conaway and Judson C. MacCallum.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Louis H. Bloom.
