CHARLESTON -- Democratic state Supreme Court candidate Tish Chafin has unveiled her first television ad of the general election campaign.
The 30-second spot, called "Choose Chafin," touts her experience as a former president of the state Bar, noting that she visited all 55 county courthouses during her tenure in that post. It also talks about her Balanced Court Initiative and her idea to revamp recusal rules on the state Supreme Court.
The commercial can be seen online.
"Chafin practices law that gives all West Virginians a voice," the announcer says. "Chafin brings people together."
"Being elected State Bar President by Democrats, Republicans, Independents, trial attorneys and defense lawyers demonstrates my ability to bring all sides to the table," Chafin said in an e-mail to supporters Wednesday promoting the ad. "I am a consensus candidate endorsed by labor organizations, teachers, business leaders, members of law enforcement, first responders and medical professionals.
"I am proud to have West Virginia's working families and business leaders supporting my candidacy for our state's highest court.
"I believe that public trust in the judiciary is paramount for a fair and balanced court, which is why I proposed my Balanced Court Initiative and my new Transparent Court Initiative."
Also on Wednesday, Republican candidate Allen Loughry unveiled his first TV ad.
Loughry's ad, called "My House," allows voters to learn more about Loughry and his family by taking a tour of their home in Charleston.
Chafin and Loughry will battle Democratic incumbent Justice Robin Jean Davis and Republican Circuit Judge John Yoder for two seats on the Court in this fall's general election.
