CHARLESTON -- A Putnam County woman and her husband are suing Target Corporation after she was injured while on the premises of its South Charleston location.
On Sept. 17, 2010, Hope Beaver was a customer in the South Charleston Target when she slipped and fell in water that was carelessly and recklessly left in the aisle, according to a complaint filed Sept. 6 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Beaver claims Target had a duty of reasonable care to protect its customers from defective or dangerous conditions existing on its premises which it knew or should have known existed.
As a result of the defendant’s negligence, Beaver received and sustained bodily injuries and incurred medical treatment and expenses, according to the suit.
Beaver claims the defendant’s negligence caused her to become indebted for sums of money for hospitalization, drugs, medicines and other medical expenses.
Target’s actions also caused Beaver’s husband to be deprived of the services and consortium of his wife and has been required to perform duties that he would have have had to perform if his wife had not been injured, according to the suit.
Beaver and her husband, Gerald Beaver, are seeking compensatory damages. They are being represented by Shawn R. Romano.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles E. King.
