FAYETTEVILLE – A Fayette County woman is suing a driver and bar after she was injured in an alcohol-related car accident.

Amanda Mitchell fled a lawsuit on Oct. 23 in Fayette Circuit Court against Kristopher J. Shillingburg and Drifter's Bar & Grill LLC, citing negligence.

Mitchell claims that on March 11, 2014, she and Shillingburg were patrons of Drifter's when Shillingburg was served a large amount of alcohol. Mitchell claims Shillingburg then attempted to operate his vehicle, in which Mitchell was a passenger, in a reckless manner causing the vehicle to collide with a utility pole on Thurman Road in Red Star. Mitchell alleges it was because of Drifter's negligence to not over-serve customers as well as Shillingburg's wanton disregard for her safety that she was left severely and permanently disabled as well as suffered emotional distress and loss of future income.

Mitchell is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. She is represented by Greg A. Hewitt and Anthony M. Salvatore of Hewitt and Salvatore in Fayetteville. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul M. Blake Jr.
