BECKLEY — A Raleigh County attorney is suing a cabinet maker over claims that he put down a deposit on a contract that was never fulfilled.
Paul W. Roop II of Beckley filed a lawsuit on Feb. 26 in Raleigh Circuit Court against George Meade, doing business as Meade’s Custom Cabinets, citing breach of contract, violation of the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act (WVCCPA), and fraud.
According to the complaint, Roop entered into an agreement with the defendant on May 29, 2015, wherein the defendant agreed to construct custom cabinets for the office/library in Roop’s home. The defendant allegedly represented that the cabinets would take three weeks to complete at the price of $6,500.
The plaintiff claims he paid a $3,500 deposit, which the defendant cashed. Since paying the deposit, the plaintiff avers that the defendant has failed to perform the contract or refund his deposit.
Roop seeks damages for the breached contract and violation of the WVCCPA, statutory damges, actual and punitive damages, attorney fees, and court costs. He is representing himself.
