MOUNDSVILLE – A Marshall County woman is suing over allegations that health-care providers misdiagnosed her husband’s condition, leading to his death.
Sonya Strope, executrix of the estate of Charles D. Strope (deceased), filed a lawsuit March 21 in Marshall Circuit Court against Wood Health Care Clinic P.C. Inc., Dr. Gregory K. Wood and certified physician assistant Kelly Truex, alleging negligence and wrongful death.
According to the complaint, after Charles Strope, 50, presented to the Wood clinic with cough, elevated temperature and other flu-like symptoms on Jan. 31, 2014, he was treated for bronchitis and sent home. However, the suit says, Wood overlooked Charles Strope’s history of hypertension and lyperlipidemia, as well as his family history of heart disease, and failed to order appropriate diagnostic tests during his first visit and a follow-up on Feb. 4.
The plaintiff claims Charles Strope’s condition worsened, leading to his hospitalization at Reynolds Memorial Hospital two days later, then a transfer to critical care at West Virginia University Hospital. On March 12, 2014, Strope passed away due to complication of septic shock, influenza pneumonia, acute renal failure and other conditions, the suit says.
Sonya Strope seeks a jury trial and damages. She is represented by attorneys R. Dean Hartley, Mark R. Staun and James C. Wright of Hartley & O’Brien PLLC in Wheeling.
Judge David W. Hummel Jr. is assigned to the case.
