WEST UNION — An employee is suing Patterson-UTI Drilling Company LLC and Antero Resouces Corp., employers, alleging negligence, failure to warn and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Rashid R. Yancey filed a complaint on June 24 in Doddridge Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 22, 2014, while working on the Patterson drilling rig, he was instructed to help the derrick man to dismantle the drilling rig, and was told to climb the rig and help to disassemble the track and top drive. When the top drive tension was released, a section of the track moved and pinned his arms against the structure of the drilling rig, causing him to sustain severe and permanent injuries to his arm, wrist and hand, that resulted in physical pain, mental anguish and inconvenience, the suit claims. The plaintiff holds Patterson-UTI Drilling Company LLC and Antero Resouces Corp. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide proper and necessary training education or safety instructions for the proper procedures and safety measures, failed to keep the rig in a reasonably safe condition and failed to warn him of the job site dangers,.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for an amount that will reasonably compensate him for all damages, costs, expenses and fees incurred for this suit, punitive damages, and for all other relief to which he may be entitled. He is represented by Truman Griffith and Andrew D. Byrd of Warner Law Offices PLLC in Charleston.
