RIPLEY – A Ravenswood resident alleges a municipal sewer system failure caused damage to her home.

Kaye L. White filed a complaint on July 16 in the Jackson Circuit Court against the town of Ravenswood, West Virginia alleging negligence and breach of duty.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 13, 2014, she was in her home when a sewer backup caused by the defendant's sewer system led to water overflowing from her toilet, contaminating her home and causing a substantial expense for the repairs. The plaintiff holds the town of Ravenswood, West Virginia responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly maintain its sewer system and surrounding area.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees, costs and expenses and such other relief as the court deems just and appropriate. She is represented by Kevin C. Harris and Eric J. Holmes of Law Offices of Harris and Holmes PLLC in Ripley. The case has been assigned to Circuit Court Judge Thomas C. Evans III.
