WHEELING — A Pennsylvania man and his wife are suing sporting good companies, alleging negligence led to the plaintiff suffering injuries from a crossbow.

John Goff and Janice Goff of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, filed a lawsuit in Ohio Circuit Court against Cabela's Wholesale Inc., Cabela's Marketing and Brand Management Inc., Cabela's Venture Inc. and unknown defendants, alleging negligence in failing to perform a safety check of a crossbow prior to providing it to plaintiff.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 9, 2014, plaintiff John Goff John Goff went to Cabela's store in Ohio County looking for several crossbows. The suit says an unknown employee allowed Goff to test the crossbows in the store.

When the crossbow was handed to Goff, the lawsuit states, the rope mechanism suddenly snapped and hit Goff's forehead and left eye. The complaint says this resulted in injury, pain and suffering, medical expenses and hospitalization.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants' employee failed to provide John Goff with safety glasses or any eye protection.

The Goffs seek trial by jury, compensatory damages that will adequately compensate the plaintiffs, plus costs and pre- and post judgment interest. They are represented by attorneys David J. Straface and John R. Angotti of Angotti & Straface LC in Morgantown.
