BECKLEY — A disabled veteran from Putnam County is suing a conservation group, alleging disability discrimination, invasion of privacy and violation of the Family Medical Leave Act.
Matthew Peaslee filed a lawsuit Nov. 21 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia against Citizens Conservation Corps, Inc., alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.
According to the complaint, due to Peaslee's serious health condition, he was terminated June 29. As result, Peaslee, who served in the U.S. Army 2000-11, has suffered lost wages, emotional harm and not being able to obtain gainful employment.
The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to apprise him of his rights under FMLA and interfered with and violated his rights under FMLA by terminating his employment, allegedly for taking time to care for his serious health conditions.
Peaslee seeks trial by jury, back wages, liquidated damages, compensatory damages, reinstatement and/or front pay, costs of litigation, attorney fees and all other remedies allowed by law. He is represented by attorney Hoyt Glazer of the Law Office of Hoyt Glazer PLLC in Huntington.
