Ky. man wins $800,000 verdict against Norfolk Southern

WILLIAMSON – A Pike County, Ky., man received an $800,000 jury verdict in his lawsuit against Norfolk Southern Railway Company.

Randy J. Ray had sued NSRC in 2014 after he claimed he was not provided a reasonably safe place in which to work. He brought his claims under the Federal Employers’ Liability Act.

Ray claimed he received a permanent back injury in 2012 when he was required to lift a knuckle that weighed more than 80 pounds as part of his job as a car man in the Williamson maintenance shop.

Ray was represented by Greg “Hootie” Smith and Patrick O’Brien.

NSRC was represented by J.H. Mahaney and Matthew Lockhart of Dinsmore & Shohl.

The trial, which lasted one week, concluded on Feb. 3.
