CHARLESTON — A Kanawha County woman is suing medical care providers, alleging their negligence led to the death of a relative.
Sandy Wiggins Morgan of St. Albans, administrator of the estate of James E. Morgan II, filed a complaint March 17 in Kanawha Circuit Court against the West Virginia University Board of Governors, Charleston Area Medical Center and CAMC Vascular Center of Excellence, alleging they failed to properly evaluate the decedent's condition prior to peripheral artery surgery.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 11, 2014, James Morgan underwent a fermoral popliteal bypass graft at CAMC Memorial. The day after, he suffered a stroke, the suit says.
The lawsuit states his condition deteriorated and he remained on a ventilator until his death Jan. 8, 2015. The suit says the plaintiff sustained medical, funeral and burial expenses.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants negligently deviated from the applicable standards of medical care in treating James E. Morgan II.
Sandy Wiggings Morgan seeks trial by jury, economic and non-economic damages, punitive damages, legal costs and interest and all other relief. She is represented by attorney Richard D. Lindsay of Tabor Lindsay & Associates in Charleston.
