Medical malpractice 04

PRINCETON – A man is suing Bluefield Regional Medical Center after he claims a foreign object was left inside him after a surgical procedure.

Dr. Vijaykumar Phade and Mountaineer Regional Resources were also named as defendants in the suit.

Christopher Harmon was a patient of the defendants beginning on May 3, 2013, according to a complaint filed in Mercer Circuit Court.

Harmon claims on May 17, 2013, he had gall bladder surgery performed by the defendants and was released following the surgery in the apprehension that surgery had gone well and that he would experience a full recovery.

Days after the surgery, Harmon began to suffer from lower abdominal discomfort, pain, infection and swelling and these problems persisted over the weeks and months following the surgery but when he sought follow up for the problems with Phade and he was not given an appointment, according to the suit.

Harmon claims the defendants deviated from than accepted standard of care or failed to exercise the degree of care, skill and learning required or expected of a reasonable and prudent healthcare provider.

On April 1, 2015, Harmon discovered or was informed through an accepted medical diagnostic procedure that a foreign object was present in his bowel consistent with the location of the surgical procedure performed by the defendant at BRMC.

Harmon is seeking compensatory damages. He is being represented by David G. Thompson.
