WINFIELD — A Hurricane woman is suing a Putnam County nursing facility, alleging its negligence led to injuries to her mother.
Kathy Patrice Clevenger, as power of attorney of Mary Stevens, filed a complaint May 24 in Putnam Circuit Court against 590 North Poplar Fork Road Operations LLC doing business as Teays Valley Center, Sunbridge Putnam Health Care LLC, doing business as Putnam Center, and Genesis Health Care LLC, alleging the defendants failed to provide appropriate health care, protective and support services consistent with her mother's care plan.
According to the complaint, on Jan. 14, 2015, Stevens was admitted to Teays Valley Center for rehabilitation and assistance with her activities of daily living. Clevenger said her mother failed to receive proper supervision and safe environment when she strained her left knee muscle that resulted to severe pain.
As a result, the suit says, Stevens' injury caused her to miss therapy sessions that resulted in a decline in her functional mobility.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly staff the facility, failed to provide proper supervision to patients, failed to maintain the premises in a safe and secure manner and failed to provide proper and reasonable assessments to patients.
Clevenger seeks trial by jury, all damages allowable under West Virginia law, attorney fees, punitive damages and all other relief the court sees fit. She is represented by attorneys Jeff D. Stewart, Andrew L. Paternostro and Shayla M. Rigsby of The Bell Law Firm PLLC in Charleston.
