CHARLESTON – A patient alleges he has suffered permanent and catastrophic injuries after a surgery at a Teays Valley medical facility.

Matthew Harris filed a complaint on June 23 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Charleston Area Medical Center Inc., doing business as CAMC Teays Valley Hospital, and Dr. David Ratliff alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was admitted to CAMC on March 26, 2015, with a diagnosis of cholecystitis and his gallbladder was removed April 1, 2015.

The suit states the plaintiff was later transferred to Ratliff for treatment and he alleges that Ratliff failed to consult a gastroenterologist for his complaints.

The suit states that the plaintiff was later treated at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and needed significant treatment and several abdominal surgeries.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages as allowed under the Medical Professional Liability Act, punitive damages, interest, costs and expenses and such other relief to which he is entitled to receive. He is represented by Richard D. Lindsay and Richard D. Lindsay II of Tabor Lindsay & Associates in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Carrie L. Webster.
