BECKLEY - A Beckley woman alleges that her employer created a hostile work environment where she was threatened on multiple occasions and that she was wrongfully terminated.
Lisa Barr alleges that her employer, Miguel Antonio Montejo, subjected her to a hostile work environment and was very offensive in a lawsuit filed June 5 in Raleigh County Circuit Court. According to the lawsuit, Barr began her employment at Beckley Pain Clinic on or about Sept. 7, 2012. Barr alleges Montejo used offensive language about her race and made comments “about the plaintiff’s preference for wearing skirts instead of pants” beginning June 2014. He was also physically abusive by allegedly throwing papers, telephone and clipboards, and pulling a weapon on her during business hours, according to the lawsuit. Barr reported Montejo, and she was terminated from her job in January.
Barr said these actions caused her to suffer “great mental and physical anguish, severe emotional distress, public humiliation and embarrassment.”
Barr is asking for all back pay, front pay and mental anguish damages.
