First Premier Bank sued for debt collection practices

WINFIELD -- A woman is suing after a debt collector continues calling her home.

Carol Joan Adkins filed a lawsuit Dec. 20 in Putnam Circuit Court against First Premier Bank, citing violations of the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act, negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

According to the complaint, the defendant began to engage in the collection of debt from Adkins through the use of telephone calls and written communications. Adkins says she notified the defendant she had retained counsel, but the defendant continued to place calls to her home, in violationn of the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act.

Adkins is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages. She is being represented in the case by attorney Benjamin Sheridan and Mitchell Lee Klein.
