Woman says City National harassed her over debt

PRINCETON -- A woman is suing City National Bank for alleged illegal debt collection attempts.


Laura Williams filed a lawsuit Jan. 30 in the Mercer Circuit Court against City National Bank, citing violations of the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act, the Computer Crime and Abuse Act, the Telephone Harassment Statute, intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

The complaint alleges the plaintiff became indebted to the defendant and the defendant began to engage in collection through the use of telephone calls and other communications, in violation of West Virginia statutes.

Williams is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages, plus court costs. She is being represented by Ralph C. Young, Christopher B. Frost, Steven R. Broadwater Jr. and Jed R. Nolan of Hamilton, Burgess, Young & Pollard PLLC. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Derek Swope.
