Woman says Navy credit union used unlawful debt collection practices

BECKLEY -- A Raleigh County woman is suing over claims a creditor engaged in unlawful debt collection practices.


Anna Adams filed a lawsuit March 5 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Navy Federal Credit Union, citing unlawful debt collection.

According to the complaint, after Adams fell into arrears upon alleged debt owed Navy Federal Credit Union, the defendant began to call and harass the plaintiff. Navy Federal Credit Union is accused of violating the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act, Computer Crime and Abuse Act and the Telephone Harassment Statute as well as intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

Adams is seeking more than $75,000 in damages.

She is being represented in the case by attorney Paul W. Roop II.
