Hospital ER negligent in man's death, suit alleges

WILLIAMSON -- A Mingo County woman is suing over claims a relative's death was caused by a negligent emergency room.

Marsha West, fiduciary of the estate of Michael P. West, deceased, filed a lawsuit Jan. 21 in Mingo Circuit Court against Williamson Memorial Hospital, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on March 19, 2012, Michael West was negligently treated at Williamson Memorial Hospital which contributed to his death on Sept. 27, 2012. The lawsuit claims emergency room staff failed to properly maintain an airway, which lead to a hypoxic event and brain damage.

Marsha West is seeking damages in an amount to be determined by a jury.

She is being represented in the case by attorney Damon B. Willis of Ewing & Willis PLLC.
