HUNTINGTON -- A woman is suing a storage unit owner after he auctioned off her property by mistake.
Brandy C. Williams filed a lawsuit April 1 in Cabell Circuit Court against Matthew Casto, individually, and Casto Land Inc., doing business as Route 60 Storage, citing negligence, breach of contract and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
The lawsuit states Williams began renting the unit June 29, and had property valued at more than $150,000 in the unit. She paid her rent on time with the last check paid around Aug. 29, the complaint said. She went to the unit at some point afterward to discover it empty and to find out her belongings were auctioned Sept. 7.
Police were called and Casto told police he had auctioned the wrong unit and sold Williams' belonging as a bundle for $850.
Williams is seeking damages to compensate her, with interest and court costs.
She is being represented by private attorney John A. Proctor. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher D. Chiles.
