Retiring State Bar commission members honored

BRIDGEPORT -- The West Virginia State Bar Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Commission that oversees continuing education for attorneys in West Virginia recognized three retiring members during a recent meeting at the Bridgeport office of Steptoe & Johnson.

The retiring members include Teresa J. Dumire of Kay Casto & Chaney;  J. Thomas Greene Jr. of Bailey, Stultz, Oldaker & Greene; and James W. Heslep of Steptoe & Johnson.

The retiring members each served a three-year term which expires at the end of June. The Commission is chaired by Kathy M. Finsley of Steptoe & Johnson.

The nine-member Commission was established in 1986 to administer the State Bar mandated continuing legal education program.  The members are appointed by the State Bar Board of Governors and confirmed by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.

Some of the Commission’s duties include: accreditation of education courses, determination of the number of credit hours for each course, granting of exemptions from education requirements, and ensuring that plenty of educational opportunities are available for attorneys.
