HUNTINGTON – A woman says negligence by hospital employees led to injury to her mother, who had been admitted for treatment of another condition.
Cheryl Dye, with power of attorney for her mother Freda Brown, filed suit Aug. 4 in Cabell Circuit Court against Cornerstone Hospital of Huntington LLC.
According to the complaint, Brown was a patient at the defendant hospital June 18, 2012, for rehabilitation after treatment of encephalitis. During her stay in the hospital, Brown fell and suffered a compression fracture of the L5 vertebrae in addition to a fractured acetabulum, the suit states.
The hospital was negligent in failing to ensure that Brown's environment was free of hazards and in failing to supervise the patien, the complaint states. This negligence led to Brown's fall and subsequent injuries, Dye says n the lawsuit.
Dye seeks a judgment against the defendants to claim all allowable damages as well as attorney's fees and punitive damages.
She is being represented by attorneys Andrew Paternosto, Sprague W. Hazard and Jeff D. Stewart of The Bell Law Firm PLLC of Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher D. Chiles.
